Health Assessments

Our health assessments determine whether your new starter has any health problems that could affect their ability to undertake their role, or place them at risk in the workplace.

We provide both New Starter Health Assessments and Night Worker Assessments, designed to identify any health considerations early and ensure appropriate support or adjustments are in place.

Our assessments

Designed to establish baseline health information, ensure compliance with the Equality Act, and confirm role-specific fitness requirements are met where there’s a legal or safety obligation.

  • New starter assessments

Used during onboarding to confirm employees are fit for their role and to identify any support or adjustments required from day one. Tailored to a wide range of roles, including office, childcare and education settings (with safeguarding considerations) and food handling.

  • Night worker assessments

For employees working night shifts, to ensure they’re medically fit and to identify any risks associated with night working — helping employers meet their legal obligations while protecting staff wellbeing.

How is it done?

Assessments are completed via an online questionnaire — simply send your employee the link to open, complete and submit directly to us. We liaise with the employee as required and, afterwards, written feedback is issued to the employer detailing fitness for the role along with any recommendations and suggested adjustments.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you speak to every employee?

Not necessarily — we only speak to employees whose assessment answers warrant further investigation. The fee is the same whether we speak with them or not, and a feedback certificate is issued for everyone who submits an assessment.

What if you deem an employee unfit for their role?

With the employee’s consent, we provide comments on their feedback certificate for you to consider. If we don’t have sufficient information to determine fitness, we may suggest obtaining a GP or specialist letter and/or a management referral so we can carry out a fuller assessment.

At what stage of employment are these done?

These assessments should be done after the employee has accepted their offer. It’s a good idea to ask them to complete the assessment during onboarding so you’re aware of any relevant recommendations from day one.

What if an employee does not consent to the process?

In such instances, you would need to continue employment without the benefit of an OH assessment.
